This wine, from southern France, features Carignan—a grape variety often blended with Grenache and Syrah—as the star. I have encountered 100% Carignan wines a few times, and every one of them has a familiar warmth, as if I had known them for a long time.

Berry fruit flavors with soft tannins, and a pleasantly bitter finish. Especially when served chilled, the clarity is greatly enhanced, making it easy to keep sipping.
